Michael Thompson Discusses the Cost of Ransomware

Did you see this article yesterday in ZDnet? Officials in Jackson County, Georgia, were forced to pay hackers over $400,000 to recover their data on their systems. While this is upsetting news to share, I feel it is important to highlight these events to make sure that we are addressing a very real issue.

Ransomware is a real, present, and consistent threat to your customers.  Your customer’s cash, productivity, and reputation are all at risk. If they are a healthcare provider or provide a similar critical service – there may be a regulatory risk as well.

While the situation is serious, the solution is available, affordable, and does not require any particular resources or expertise. Managed Disaster Recovery as a Service (MDRaas) backs up data and systems, protecting your customer from all kinds of mayhem – whether it’s hackers, hardware failures, and human error. This system makes data level backups simple – but even more importantly – it restores on demand. That means when something does go wrong, your customer won’t have to scramble to find the people who know how to put it back together or cross your fingers hoping it will work. It means they make one call, and they are back in business.

Cybercrime stories like this are becoming increasingly common in the news. I can’t help but think that this will trigger more organizations to test their protection and recovery plans. As a result, they’ll reach out to their trusted partners for help and guidance. That’s where you come in. When you help them understand proper security practices, you give them the confidence to deal with inevitable problems proactively.

If you are still building partnerships, this news gives you an opportunity. It’s the perfect time to open up a conversation with your clients. Are they ready for an interruption? What will they do in their systems become infected? Has their intern accidentally erased important data? M-DRaaS is a great solution for any business who wants to protect themselves from the inevitable. You know this, but does your customer?

To make this conversation easier, we’ve built a simple marketing piece to help you connect. Simply fill out the form here and we’ll send it to you in a downloadable format.  As an added bonus, we will send you the “5 Questions” that lead to a 75% close ratio on a MDRaaS follow up meeting…sound too good to be true…test us!
