2019: The Year Disaster Recovery Became Mission-Critical

Data Loss: Can your small business recover from a cyber attack?

We have seen it all this year. Malware, spyware, ransomware, power outages, sketchy emails with weird links, you name it. Outages can come from anywhere. All of them, no matter the cause, need to be addressed immediately. Downtime is disruptive. It can hurt your employees, your clients, your reputation and your bottom line. You don’t have to let it.

Cyber attacks are hurting small businesses

The most interesting thing we saw this year was how there really is no “easy” button when it comes to recovery (except for calling us, of course). If you don’t have a “Managed” disaster recovery service, you have a lot of work to do when things go down.

CPO Magazine and Dark Reading recently published some eye opening facts and statistics how cyber related incidents are bad for business.

For example:

  • Over 60% of cyber attacks in 2019 targeted small businesses. Why? Because they’re easier to hack.
  • Of that 60%, 10% percent of them could not recover and were forced to shut down as a result.
  • All breached organizations, no matter the cause, lost money in their downtime.
  • Fewer than 50% of small business CEOs have made certain that their company’s data and systems are secure.

Data recovery is hard

We work with organizations throughout the US with diverse requirements and any number of permutations of hardware and software. It takes detailed study and expertise to manage the recovery of complex systems. It also takes practice. This is not one of those areas where you can simply figure it out when the time comes. When systems go down, the clock ticks – loudly.

Not all DRaaS providers make it easy

We keep an eye on a lot of the other vendors in this space who claim to simplify disaster recovery. They tend to oversimplify what happens when an outage occurs. They fail to ask the right questions up front:

  • Has the process for recovery been documented?
  • What is the first step?
  • Are the people currently on staff the same ones that bought and deployed the solution?
  • Has the provider demonstrated that the solution works across a number of potential threats?
  • Most importantly – has it been tested?

Every single one of our clients has the same, simple recovery process. They call our 24 x 7 x 365 support group. We take it from there. A team of industry experts are at the ready to analyze the situation, review the best options with the customer, and most importantly, EXECUTE the recovery.

MDRaaS: A 100% “awesome” track record

The SDV Support team has continued to maintain a 100% “Awesome” rating on our customer tickets. There is a reason for that. Our team are seasoned professionals who are constantly building expertise in system recovery. They get organizations back up and running fast. They are human beings and they care deeply about their work and their clients.

If you are an Agent or MSP working with client organizations today, ask if they are sure how to recover from an outage. Ask if they have run a test in the last year. An outage is not a matter of “if” it’s a matter of when. The cost of downtime continues to increase, and the threat vectors continue to multiply.

If your clients are not prepared, let’s talk. We’ll make sure they’re covered before they become a statistic instead of another successful Save of the Month.
